The simple sugar deoxyribose or 2-deoxy-D-ribose showed promise for treating hair loss due to androgenic alopecia in a pre-clinical study. Topical application demonstrated hair regrowth comparable to minoxidil by promoting blood vessel formation and revitalizing hair follicles.
