And the Vikings.
Also demonstrative of the depth of racism in this country is how someone can say they are of Irish or British decent and it is not questioned or queried. But say you are Aboriginal and many conservatives seem to take great umbrage.
Yes my grandmother was from an awful Catholic mission in Newcastle Monti Pio she destroyed her birth certificate do you think we can get it back !!! Nup
Iβve tried everything so has my uncle she had a brother also forced adoption we were told that she would have been adopted under her Aboriginal name no records and the Catholic Church donβt want to know
Yes, we hunted for years. Remember, the birth cert is a Western construct anyway, its being accepted by Mob & spirit that counts. Back in the day they spelt names wrong, they wrote false dates & not everyone even had a cert or registered. it can be like a massive puzzle, it can take many years.
Good thing Australia isnβt multicultural or built on English law and Aboriginal culture and traditions are afforded the respect they deserve then, isnβt it?
Honestly it's not fair at all and it blows my mind how so many in this country can begrudge the people with the least for their own self interest. Change the date.
A friends mother died on my birthday. Since then I have not had a party on my birthday because I donβt want or need to celebrate a date thatβs so hard for her.
Itβs not the same thing but itβs analogous.
And why celebrate an English date? Why cling to brutal colonisers?
We could evolve!
England needs to follow Scotland's example & chase up the 1st January New Year public holiday with another one on the 2nd.
And then spend the day really taking stock of their (inter)national legacy still remaining from prior years.
Humour aside, a clear distinction should be made, as the US narrator notices, between 'discovering' something & straight up 'inventing' something.
In the current moment it's worth debating if the USA was truly discovered or invented.

There are some remaining areas where wiping the slate clean is often the best way forwards;
