And until we address the historical facts of the matter we will allow fools like Howard and Dutton and Rinehardt to manipulate and twist Australian history to suit their Anglo-centric narrative . . .
I remember reading Manganinni as a youngster & questioning the history we were taught. ANZACs & graziers & bold explorers. The intentional ignorance of our real history is shameful
True. There were some back then but the bad uns did/do huge damage. Shameful. We lost referring opportunity 😢 Inspired by Aboriginal & Torres Strait Island Peoples role models- determined resilience to fight the gd fight.
If we aren't ashamed and terribly distressed, there's something wrong with us.
We could start by being honest about the country's colonial (white) history and maybe even seeking a treaty.
Charged but case dismissed. Went about acquiring more land. No consequences. Village still named for him. You’d have thought they’d have changed it by now.
I’m heartened by the amount of people who are sickened and shocked by these reports.
I no longer am, not even by the ones coming to light all the time.
I remember my grandmother talking about direct ancestors being hunted for sport and the white hot anger that burned my shock ability away.
I believe you Rob. It pisses me off when so many white Australians say we should forget about it and move on. My family was here then. Since 1790 on my dads side and the 1850s on my mum’s side. I don’t know in detail what they did.
I discovered, only a month or two ago, that there was a smallpox epidemic among the Aborgines around Sydney, in 1779, which killed a majority of the people, and - in all probability - it was DELIBERATELY ENGINEERED by one or some of the colonists, less than a year after the First Fleet landing.
“It is true that our surgeons had brought out variolous matter in bottles, but to infer that it was introduced from this cause were a supposition so wild as to be unworthy of consideration".
"it is possible and, in 1789, likely, that infection of the Aboriginal people was a deliberate extermination act". Noel Butlin suggested that it had been transferred from scab originally stored in glass containers carried by just one of the seven medical officers on the first fleet.
I read it in a ships journal. Scabs were collected from sufferers by British doctors, but disappeared from stocktake at the same time the outbreaks occurred. I will try to find it again.

I’ve heard stories of Indigenous people being hunted and murdered near Tennant Creek in the NT as late as the 1970’s.
Genocide , Rob
I’m so disgusted by this attitude. I’m sorry.
I don't think it's in today's curriculum ...
The most likely suspect for the smallpox "outbreak" was this bloke 👇, Tench's commanding officer.
