We can't continue down this "all of the above" energy policy road. It caters to corporations and to elites, not people and planet.

In this moment of reassessing our strategies, this shows that we can walk and chew gum at the same time-- build up renewables while directly taking on fossil fuels.

Not sure if you’re referring to the West but the reality is different for countries with 40% access to electricity. They need all the energy sources they can get cheapest and most reliable. Not 100% RE. Not majority FF. Scope for RE is huge but not 100%.

Supporting phase out (in the west) is consumers saying they support oil companies bearing the unpleasant transition costs. It does not mean they want to pay more for their energy. That’s the fundamental problem w supply side action. We need to change the cost for consumers of polluting energy.

These polls don't match political reality. Many of these same people who tell pollsters they "support" phasing out fossil fuels are also voting for a political party that supports the expansion of fossil fuels, is hostile to renewable energy, and also denies climate change is happening.

It also doesn't track with consumer reality. Demand for petroleum products has been slacking off the past couple of years and expected to continue.

From the oil cos' point of view, it is stupid and a waste of $ to drill now...
