All I can personally do, is pray for those that couldn’t, wouldn’t, refused to see what was right in front of their faces and voted for him anyway. There’s going to be suffering for all of us, but it’s going to be worse in the south.
I believe the fact is true for most social programs. The 9 deepest red states are overwhelmingly dependent on federal funding from supplemental nutrition to medical and everything in between. I wonder, if blue states withhold paying federal taxes every single quarter till the last day what will happ
Looks like the States best get to finding some money in their budget if we peasant class wanna keep labor and delivery. If you can afford it I suppose.
The party that claims to be pro-life wants mothers and babies to die for lack of health care, and grandma to be kicked out of her nursing home. The cruelty is the point, yes, but that doesn't stop it from being mind-boggling.
Vermont is poor. Industry left and everything was bought up by out of staters who use their Airbnbs to pay for their vacations and retirement. Housing is a huge issue here. Vermont is blue. Don’t throw us under the red bus please.
Before responding, please understand that MS and LA are the states with the largest % of Black Americans. These Medicaid cuts disproportionately impact poor Black women - who did not vote for/want any of this.
Additionally, many such states states have unfathomable barriers to voting, such as a lack of DMVs and transport to reach them (for getting IDs), limited polling places, and times that are impossible with work hours.
It’s awful. We get Medicaid in PA for our daughter who was born with a congenital heart defect. She needs two more surgeries in her lifetime and without Medicaid, we may be forced to sell our house to keep her alive
Based on previous discoveries about this kind of political figure, this likely means he's a closeted homosexual who prefers black men. Why do people in power who are ashamed of themselves take it out on OTHER PEOPLE?
Around half the births in the state of Oklahoma count on Medicaid. Our all Republican delegation that unanimously voted for the budget framework bizarrely describe themselves as "pro-family". How about you stop killing the programs that help families exist.
Infant mortality rates will skyrocket not to mention the deaths of mothers during childbirth. Their pro-life position was never about saving lives. The GOP are evil to the core!
It’s always been about racism… in the 70’s under Carter, changes: no prayer in school and no tax subsidies for private Christian schools; which was the 60s answer to school desegregation (put our special white kids in “our” schools).
Reagan in the 80s getting publicly endorsed by Falwell.
$800B in Medicaid cuts will impact millions of poor people, black AND white, MAGA and liberal. It will also shut down a LOT of rural hospitals. It will be devestating.
It seems from their choices, they’d like women to either produce more workers for the rich to exploit, who will have less opportunities out of poverty, or just potentially die in child birth.
This is actually the plan, just looks dumb until you realize…They want more rich white kids and poor brown people to have more children without government support to ensure they have to work 3 jobs and have no extra time or energy to fight back against the racist system.
For about a year now I've been calling their plan 'brutal forced eugenics'. Brutal as in brutalist, forced because they are taking away the safety net of American Humanity to make it happen, and of course Eugenics because only the stupid and healthy will survive to be work mules. It's monstrous.
It covers so much more than this grandparents in nursing homes, families with children that have disabilities, food stamps and health insurance for the working poor. They’re gunning for SS.
I really can't understand this self destructive attitude when they step into a polling booth. I just hope that in the next 4 years Trump hurts them enough to make them and their offspring never vote GOP again.
40% of the parents in this country are single women. That is a real legitimate number. We live in a place where it takes two incomes to be in the middle class.
A NY real estate scammed and convicted felon is helping himself and his rich friends at the expense of the poor and rural people. Didn't see this coming, guys.
I'd be interested in seeing how many nursing home beds/facilities are funded by Medicaid, too. Might make it a little more interesting to the red-meat-for-every-meal crowd who insist they don't see color, but have alienated their librul millennial kids without planning for the future. 🤷
Most states have about 70% of their nursing home care covered by Medicaid. Medicare part A covers some, then Medicaid kicks in. In my state, there are 44000 long term beds, so approx 30,800 are dependent upon Ma/Mc to cover their costs.
Holy shit! I suspected a big number, but damn... I wish I could find an infographic to send to friends whose MAGA old farts are still bitching about their ungrateful kids refusing to come home and play nice for the holidays. Hell, I'd put that on this year's Christmas card instead of my dogs.
You could just put a bunch of statistics regarding your own state, if there's hope they might start to care about it. You could also put something along the lines of "treat your adult children better, they decide where you end up in your old age" 😂 🥴
The real bottom line for MAGA is that these…ummmm…people…have no problem seeing others get hurt. They just get angry when THEY get screwed over. Great facts here.
I should clarify that the 30,800 is condensing all the cost to a single person instead of calling it 70% of a person. It's a generalization, not the actual amount of people who are covered by Medicaid, because in actuality it's more like 40,000+ people getting 70% of their nursing home stay covered
Medicare part b, if they have it/are eligible, often covers the rest. It's very Helter skelter and after dealing with an relative with dementia, I can say for certain we need more people to help our seniors and their families through all of this, not less.
Also, to add a little more insight into my state, the department responsible for investigation complaints gets over 800 complaints a year. That means ~1/52 long term care residents have an issue in these places, ie Abuse/neglect. That will only increase as people can't afford schooling/training
To pro life party who doesn’t want to help feed and support the newborns after forcing the mother to carry a child full term. The future of newborns looks more bleak than ever. We the people who really care are going to have to find new and creative ways to support these mothers and children.
States with aging and declining populations need people, college grads, families to stay/move in to do the work, populate and help pay for schools- which is why immigrants are needed, welcome and encouraged!!!
It's marginal but it's especially noticeable in quality of government services. Which is still shit btw. If you want to see some proper material improvement let's see how shit pans out with proper healthcare and public housing. Those maternal mortality rates will plummet.
Kansas never expanded the ACA. And the cut offs for existing Medicaid coverage are abysmally low. Based on a chart I just found, sounds like for a single pregnant woman the income threshold is a little under $20k a year
I see a lot of people pointing out that the southern states take more... but an alternative view could be that at least 25% of births in almost every state will be impacted by cuts to Medicaid.
so let me get this straight. the same people who would make it mandatory to carry to term dont want to even pay for that. i mean we knew once they were born they didn't gaf....jfc make it make sense
Alot of red states!!! Those senators need to prepare for their final act because the repercussions from their constituents should be extreme. Hopefully enough to swing their states to blue!
So. Outlaw abortion. Restrict birth control. Kill Medicaid to pay for the surge in pregnancies/babies. (But, then, kill SNAP and school meals). Make America populous and hungry.
Interesting. Financed by Medicaid is strong language for a country that seems to want as many babies as possible and has made abortion illegal. ACA fills that gap so well, except some states choose to make ACA unavailable. ACA is incredibly affordable for low income families, WHO also pay taxes!
Post a map of the of nursing home that are, in their majority, funded by Medicaid. How many will close due to these cuts? I’m a retired RN and I can tell you many of them require full time help and many are without able-bodied family who can take it on or have family that has to work.
All of them. With the possible exception of private ones for rich people. The rest are majority funded by Medicaid and Medicare. Same with most states children’s medical coverage like chip.
Medicare funds stays in nursing homes and rehab for a limited number of weeks. After that it’s either private insurance or Medicaid, if you qualify. You have to be basically destitute to do that or to have set iyour legal ways out of giving up everything you own to hide it.
Isn’t it interesting that it’s the same states taking away access to safe abortions that are not going to have funding for births? Hospitals will collapse financially and EVERYONE else will pay more.
Pretty sadistic to outlaw abortion and then cut the healthcare those poor ladies rely on to give birth safely. A lot of babies and a lot of moms are going to die soon just so some billionaires don’t have to pay their fair share of taxes. That’s the only reason why and it sucks!
You would think that these Christians that care so much about the unborn would want the mother to get the best possible prenatal and birth care to assure the health of that unborn.
It pains me every time I think about all the damage done in the name of "Christianity." There are hundreds of thousands of us who don't want ANY of this. But we absolutely don't get covered by MSM. @abcnetwork.bsky.social @msnbc.com @cbsnewsconfirmed.bsky.social @nbcnews.com
Real Christians do not want children to go without food and health care.
Real Christians want pregnant women to get the best care possible and do not want them turned away at the hospital if their are complications.
Real Christians are welcoming the stranger, treating others like they want to be treated and wondering WTH happened to this “Christian” nation. (And for the record Christians don’t believe this is a Christian nation.)
"Pro-Life" is the Easy button of virtue signalling. It's not You, it is some "sl(word)", someone who is vulnerable, someone you can feel superior too, and its' a way to yell in anger at strangers(kind of like a Social Media discussion, but on the street).
These visuals all clearly show that smug little Mike Johnson is leading the charge on a budget that negatively impacts his constituents the most. Crazy!!
Just to add a bit of context, the eligibility requirements for maternity coverage are different (easier) than standard Medicaid because people who aren't consumed by greed recognize the importance of reliable health care during pregnancy.
Is that still determined state by state? I know for those that didn't expand the ACA they have kept their cut offs abysmally low, wondering though if the pregnancy cut offs are handled differently in those states too
If Medicaid is gutted the result will be worse and more expensive pregnancy outcomes. Hospitals and providers will pass the costs along to everyone. Medicaid supports healthy pregnancies, saves lives, and benefits all of us.
This will go across the board. Not only hospital or birthing centers, but clinics, urgent care, doctor offices. Any medical facility that cares for people on Medicaid. When enough people die and the government gets sue, then they may change their tune. We can’t wait for that to happen.
Birthing units will shutter and providers will leave. The costs are just too high to pass along to everyone, it would cause other service lines to buckle if they had to increase prices in accordance. 6000 births a year at my hospital system, average cost is $15k OOP in my state
We're all going to be hurt. The dramatic drop in violent juvenile crime in the 1990s coincided with the passing of Roe v Wade twenty years earlier. (See the opening chapter of Freakonomics). With more unplanned children comes more juvenile crime, etc.
Oh the pro birthers want to make birthing a financial burden on the woman they want to force it upon. Who is even surprised by this sh!t at this point?
Also, a large number of hospitals, nursing homes, health care providers get payments from Medicaid and if that is cut or lost, we will have a genuine health care crisis in this country the likes of which will exceed the Covid 19 pandemic.
Monetizing the act of giving birth is one of the worst facettes of late stage capitalism.
I cannot understand why the American population doesn't get together to create a universal healthcare company in the hands of the people (excluding billionaires). If the government doesn't do it do it yourself!
Take away access to abortion, remove funding for Medicaid, disband maternal mortality boards and don't let anyone report on disparitie (if anyone is even left to report anything). This is true greatness /s
It is so sad to see you say “all Christians” here. It shows exactly how much the evangelical right, the conservative Christians have co-opted and taken over our faith. And that angers me to no end.
Many of us are out here fighting their crap. And why - because your post is what happens.
Two things - first; until it’s NO christians, it IS all christians.
I saw all the “not us Lord” effete congregations protect & coddle the extremists INSTEAD of standing for the meek
Secondly, I’m a product of the 90’s faith wars - I’m just turning my training against the evil church, where it belong
The United Church of Christ openly fully affirms LGBTQ, openly supports Black Lives Matter, Palestine and Gaza, Ukraine, and anyone oppressed including women - even in Christianity. We openly oppose the immigration policies of Trump. We work to end the wealth inequality we see today.
Two things that you must realize have always existed and still exist in the US: the elite white in the south doesn’t care what happens to the white trash if it harms Black people too. And the white trash doesn’t care what happens to themselves either if it harms Black people too.
GOP had 22 months to complete their raid on the US government.
They will likely lose the House and thus this mad rush to get Project 2025 implemented. Even with the House back to the Dems, with a GOP Senate and Trump ruling by EO, it will be nearly impossible to reverse this nightmare.
Imagine if all your income taxes went to the State you live in. I'm in Michigan. I'm pretty sure we would have a chance at getting Universal Healthcare Coverage.
I don't think it would make much of a difference here in Alabama. The people here have wanted a state lottery for years, and Kay Ivey and her other inbred minions refuse to get the vote out for us to vote on to help with schools and roads.
Agree. As a nurse midwife I am forever frustrated by how society discounts all the elements of reproductive health. The cost of a tiny cyst removal( my cheek) with one stitch was billed/reimbursed more than all prenatal visits and the delivery ( Maine Care). Cuts will mean disaster
I was trying to say that when a headline says “ births”, the care isn’t just the delivery. Agree, All people must be provided w affordable/ free health care, not only pregnant persons. Reimbursement for women’s health is low as is; all elements of reproductive care are discounted by society
BUT states can finance these births through an agreement that leases the woman for the duration, with an understanding that the first child born during each delivery belongs to the state for its own business and governmental uses.
That’s what they voted for. Unfortunately the small blue dots in these red states are going to suffer exponentially as well. I hate this administration.
Guess all your RED STATE BABIES will be Home Births.
Just the way GOD INTENDED IT TO BE.
Good Luck if there’s a complication.
Remember Who Voted For This.
REPUBLICANS.
And drilling down we know Abbott is withholding some of that now $33 billion surplus from schools leaving many districts in a deficit. Republicans in Texas are literally a crime family and they keep getting voted in by the uneducated voters in rural areas.
And the last place I expected to have my rights and my daughter’s rights ripped from us is the United States. Saying F them all is an f you to kids who didn’t ask for any of this. Let’s be better.
Honest question... Why is America the "last place" you expected rights to be stripped? What makes you think America has more freedom than other countries? This belief that America is unique in its rights has always baffled me.
Ok this is a *very* loaded question with a manufactured binary & an assumption thrown in but sure I’ll bite. It’s because of the constitution & because of history. Rights granted to the historically repressed don’t tend 2b ripped away like 🫰. Because we rejected kings, arbitrary rule and fascism.
It comes off willfully ignorant to believe America is the only country to reject kings. As if the presence of a monarchy is inherently oppressive in today's world of constitutional monarchies anyway.
This idea that America is unique in freedoms is propaganda fed to its children.
Please consider that this is a nuanced situation. I’m one of many progressives living in a MAGAt state and I didn’t want or vote for any of this. In fact, I’ve protested against it. The last place I expect to be met with a turned back is on BlueSky.
Great recruiting messaging by democrats post election.
Instead of being an asshole why not try reaching consensus w/ these potential voting blocks?
Or do democrats still believe their failed policies are winners moving forward?
It's more than HALF of the births in Texas - no big deal.
This seems pretty self-defeating if you are on board with that whole "Pro-Life" thing, right?
Hopefully, this will result in people not having children & we can send a big old fuck you to Mike Johnson with his dumbass comment that every women needs to give birth to future workers. No higher wages, no babies, no affordable housing, no babies, no clean environment, no babies. See the pattern.
& who TF wants to even risk getting pregnant when you could go to jail for life or executed if the quality of the sperm is so poor it causes you to miscarry & you get the blame anyway.
Yep. I gave birth at home with only a midwife (no prenatal) who heard I was going to call fire dept if needed, she took me fr free. At 8 mo preg in TEXAS in 90s. No Medicaid I didn’t qualify. I made less than minimum. Zero child support EVER my daughter grown now. I was lucky I had midwife. CONT
So this shit hits very personal for me. No right to lifers did shit. Later I met pos in church. Got preg again, another abusive deadbeat. I left TX. Because I worked still no Medicaid until I couldn’t work n was homeless. One toddler one on way. Still no child support. TX though and sadly —cont
State I was in said fathers could get custody no matter how abusive. I simply was poor while trash incubator. I haven’t forgotten. Both kids grown. Never got help fr shit fathers churches or pro life shit except one man once gave me 100$. I lived this nightmare. I know. Now lots women will know. Cnt
When I say they are ISiS or Taliban Christians I do not exaggerate. Oh I saw eugenists n elitists in left too. Dont think they don’t exist they do. Misogyny everywhere. But the gop and right are pits full of it and they only want kids to labor or sex abuse. Fact. They HATE THE POOR and POOR KIDS.
And yeah those women who vote for this garbage don’t care. They despise poor. The churches don’t care either. I lived in church fill town with NO DV SHELTER. NONE. The amount of child molestation was thru the roof. Decades racism n hate they pass on. They laugh at suffering then go church Sunday
Taliban GOP. They identical. Dont think they aren’t. They dress different. That’s it. They the same nationalist war mongering misogynist filth. They really are vanilla ISIS.
I became feminist after debunking Decades of Bible backed conservative Rethug TEXAN brainwashing. Took years. The cult programming was deep. Submissive obedient easy to lie to and abuse. And my kids paid dearly before I woke fuck up. Some never wake up though. Some pass this shit to daughters. —
My my my would you look at that! Repub voters are going to be the first ones to FAFO! We always knew it would hit them first. May they get everything they voted for
I mean, they won't be the group hit the hardest... but hey, don't let the suffering and deaths of hundreds of thousands of women and children who NEVER voted for any of this ruin your schadenfreude.
Medicaid also keeps people with disabilities out of nursing homes, provides day programs for people with developmental disabilities, and prevents unnecessary visits to the ER. The fraud is minimal compared to the benefits and the most fraudulent are the providers not the recipients. #screwed
The Mason-Dixon Line never went away it’s a graphic predictor of where the majority of the Suffering will be shared. Layer in the effect on states that requires immigrant labour, will lose manufacturing opportunities imposed by the heist.
Is it they just don’t realize the catastrophic affect? Or it is less meaningful to them than others, such as to Democrats.
OR is it just as intentionally cruel & catastrophe bringing as we see it, to them and that is WHY indeed it’s just this that they do?
They want more babies. They claim they care about babies—enough that they’ll prosecute women for murder if they abort babies. But they don’t want to pay for babies to be born.
If they lose medicaid, pregnant women will not be able to afford healthcare. This will result in even more maternal deaths and infant mortality or born with severe disabilities. But, yet force high risk pregnancies
Comments
1. Instill a religion that heavily pushes being fruitful
2. Legally remove abortions and birth control
3. Make having a child bankrupt you
4. Create a poor growing workforce that will take whatever jobs they can get.
5. Rich profit on a private island far from the chaos.
Reagan in the 80s getting publicly endorsed by Falwell.
Breeding workers for easy birthing.
Fucking Nazi oligarchs.
Coupled with wealthy people’s strategy of keeping poor people of all races uneducated and incapable of upward mobility.
When people have to work two jobs to survive they have less energy and time for activism.
I really can't understand this self destructive attitude when they step into a polling booth. I just hope that in the next 4 years Trump hurts them enough to make them and their offspring never vote GOP again.

And YOU get a medical bankruptcy!
Why some states blue/so little Medicaid?
Fear of immigrants
Fear of minorities
Fear of government
Fear of facts
Republican states are going to get whacked even harder than blue states when Medicaid is cut.
Making it 1825 again.
I guess not.
Real Christians want pregnant women to get the best care possible and do not want them turned away at the hospital if their are complications.
71% of Trump backers oppose,
Medicaid cuts the GOP proposed.
A policy Fox News didn’t tell them about?
They fucked around and now find out.
Armpit people from armpit states voting for armpit representatives.
Many of them will be forced to close. Fact.
I cannot understand why the American population doesn't get together to create a universal healthcare company in the hands of the people (excluding billionaires). If the government doesn't do it do it yourself!

How do you reconcile your constitutional rights with the obvious reality that America is beholden to corporate interests and has been for a long time?
This idea that America is unique in freedoms is propaganda fed to its children.
Instead of being an asshole why not try reaching consensus w/ these potential voting blocks?
Or do democrats still believe their failed policies are winners moving forward?
*Keep them poor.
*Keep them pregnant.
*Take away healthcare.
*Starve the moms & babies.
*Tell them it’s for their own good.

Good.
