100% this!

In my lab, grad students take an entire course on microscopy so that they know how to operate multiple kinds, clean and calibrate them and theory. It’s been a great way to ensure confidence in students and ongoing operation of my Zeiss Axioplan.

Young trainees starting to venture into the microscopy world should not feel intimidated! I spent my PhD avoiding the microscope, afraid of breaking it. Don't be like me! Also 2 tips:
1 - Basic knowledge of optics goes a long way.
2 - You don't need a new fancy scope. I'm happy with a 2008 model.
