STEM challenge today: can you keep the tea from getting wet in Boston Harbor? I HAVE to make sure my students can converse, collaborate, and problem solve. This worked really well. More history & STEM to come.

Sure. It was super simple. I broke the kids into three groups of 5 and gave each the same materials (10 popsicle sticks, tape, 5 straws, 5 rubber bands, 1 teabag) and 10 minutes to design and build their crate. The crate had to be no larger than 5x5- they all had rulers.
The crate had to float for 30 seconds and each student had to tell what ideas they contributed and how they determined their final designs. 15-20 min total and totally worth it. Then back to other history things!
