I hypothesize a sort of Somebody Else's Problem field around the whole existence of vampires. Buffy showed it nicely - people just ignoring what's going on because it's too weird.

Lots of werewolves kill their victims with weapons that leave the same mark as vampire teeth. Same reason vampires tear people to pieces.
