1.) pundits are motivated to "believe" whatever they need to in order to maintain an audience
2.) whether or not you, personally, believe in the divine or the supernatural, such a belief is clearly not a mental illness and insisting otherwise can very quickly take you to ugly, Dawkins-y places.
