Resigning him was a mistake. He flashes for 1-2 games per year, but other than that he’s replacement level. Mistakes happen in the draft but Beane threw good money after bad by extending him.

Look at Kawann Short with Star Lotulelei and without Star Lotulelei in Carolina... Different player... The 3 technique in a McD defense is reliant on a dominant 1 technique... DQ has unfortunately regressed and it's also royally affected Ed. They need to address one technique in the off-season.

While some of it is ed... The ed dropoff I believe goes hand in hand with the DQ regression... One technique (DQ) and 3 technique (Ed) in the McD defense go hand in hand, one doesn't excel without the other... Ed isn't blameless but if the 1 technique isn't holding the ground, the 3 can't penetrate.

The level he has to play at to be competitive (because of his size) is very high. Any drop off or slowing, hurts him & limits his effectiveness far more than other tackles. Not even career-wise. In game play too. When lines are gassed, bigger players can still use their size and weight. Imo that is.

The issue is the one technique needs to hold up 2 guys in this defense... That creates a 1-on-1 opportunities for the 3 technique and frees up the LB behind them... DQ hasn't been doing that and it shows up everywhere else as well.

Indeed. Team has had off & on consistency in maintaining that from that spot.

Def wasn't trying to throw shade at Ed. Just respecting that he has to do & be more to be productive at this level. Which he has. But I feel it's a challenge when team execution isn't right, or he's not, due to his size.

Ed is the new Kawann Short... Short was a monster with Star Lotulelei in Carolina... Without Star... Not so much... When DQ was better, Ed was a monster... DQ regressed so Ed... Yeah it spread to Ed too. My solution is draft Deone Walker round 1... We'll see.

6'6, 345, had 7.5 sacks in 2023... He's the best one technique in this draft... The bills need an upgrade at one technique... Production was down this year but that had a lot to do with him being triple teamed and freeing up linebackers and safeties behind him.
