Someone's collection of DVDs isn't different from a Mass Storage Array if DRM is not a issue.

For games, it's weirder. People act like going to a store to buy a disc makes it more physical, but the console still needs internet SOMEWHERE to get the patches (including through flash drives).

On the Digital side, all that data still needs PHYSICAL mass storage that still has limitations. You can move the data to other storage devices or even personal clouds, but it exists physically somewhere. You can even put it on a shelf in a pretty box.

FTMP: DRM is the issue at console level.

On my own Steam Deck, I can play the games offline (no cloud saves) and I can pull the saves manually. I can store the games on my own separate drives to save room.

However, the Steam games are Steam locked.

Just NOT those "other" games I installed too: fan games, Itchio, & OTHERS.

Meanwhile, movies have always had the expectation of rebuying them in new formats TETHERED to NEW devices (VHS, Laser Disc, DVD, Blu-Ray). What helped? We learned to convert physical formats to a digital untethered formats which we can put back on your CHOICE of physical devices.

Companies WANT you to fight "Physical vs Digital" because they know it's the wrong fight and it distracts you.

The fight is TETHERED Media (to them) vs UNTETHERED media (copyable/convertable) and the RIGHTS to do so.

VHS players are gone, eventually DVD will be too. So... Untether!

Did we forget we already know how to SCAN books and convert them to PDFs?

It's not "physical book better", it's digital book tethered to Amazon or Google. I have PLENTY of UNTETHERED (.)epub and (.)pdf ebooks in my Cloud storage, I promise you!
