Didn't all the police unions back Trump in the election?

My suspicion is that both the police and the army will back authority over legality, at least in the first instance.

I'm aware that this is risky territory for me, bearing in mind you're a political philosopher and I'm not, but I've always tended to see the US Constitution as a religious text rather than a legal one. Like religious texts, it can mean all things to all people, and be conveniently ignored.
