I went to the US in the summer arriving at LAX. It took more than an hour to go through passport control and the atmosphere was pretty uncomfortable, as if everyone was suspected of trying something on. Presume it must be much worse now.

And also to be fair it was taking Americans at LAX almost as long. There was a call on the tannoy system asking agents due to leave their shifts to stay on for overtime.
My worst experience by far was at Heathrow, but I was 19, alone, exhausted from a long week alternating MDA and writing final papers, penniless, and on my way to work on a dig so not exactly a tourist. So their suspicions were not unwarranted. I had to get the dig director to vouch for me.
lol no. MDA mixed with meth is Ecstasy, what the ravers take; this was a very early (still legal) version *without* the meth, which was much better, calming, a 5 hour vacation. I had been given some, and obviously had to use it up before I left the country.
Come to think of it I was also on a one-way ticket, which must have seemed odd, but I was heading on after the dig to spend the summer with my parents in Paris (of course they did not answer the phone), and then the fall in Rome on study abroad.
I was in LAX a few years back, during the summer, and there were a lot of delays, it was hot n everyone was stressed. As we were all boarding, pilot came on tannoy and said "welcome aboard, this is your captain Buck Naked, and your copilot is Justin Case". Broke the tension in a split second
Went to LAX once and in the queue looked down and saw a bullet on the floor. Looked up, get my eyes level, horizontal, not deviating down until I got through customs and border...
Why the US is at the lower end of places I aspire to visit. I miss the interesting history there. The genocide of the Indians and slavery don't appeal to me. Interesting architecture? Cultural heritage? And now Trump. The world around us is beautiful. So why the U.S. or Russia?
Used to fly to Vegas with my poker group. We all lived in the Golders / Hampstead / Hendon / Gants Hill parts of London
US immigration offer became suspicious because of "mediterranean appearance", took us ages to convince him that a bunch of poker playing Jews were not terrorists
Last time we went
Entering US airports has been like that a long time. I once had immigration throw my passport at me. Another time, I stopped straight after the booth to put the mass of paperwork away, I got shouted at, "Hey buddy, don't congregate!".
They are as illiterate as they are ignorant. Never going back.

America is greeting the world with a scowl right now, and wonders why the world stops smiling back.
