i tried once and there was a really nice moment where i was quickly drawing successive frames very loosely and felt better and better about my character perception but i didnt like the other 8 months i spent opening the project, looking at it, auffering for a few hours thenndoing nothng

It can definitely help with your regular art because in animation you have to commit to the lineart and that means eventually becoming more agile and having a lot more confidence.

animation skill sets absolutely translate over to other areas of art since so much of it is based on fundamentals and principles. The #1 thing I think it taught me for example is clarifying drawings through pose / action!

...plus its always fun getting to see something you've drawn come to life :)

learning to animate can help with making a normal piece of art have better conveyed motion, because you know what that's "supposed" to look like when it actually is in motion.
