Dolly has lost her beloved, Nashville had lost its enigmatic, but true, first husband. He waved at her from the Wishy Washy laundromat and a true love story was born. A testament that opposites can and do attract. Rest in peace Carl Dean, thanks for being by her side, all these years.

Carl Dean, an asphalt paver who met his future wife, Dolly Parton, outside a Nashville laundromat more than six decades ago and quietly championed her as she rose to superstardom, died on Monday. He was 82.
