You are correct prior to Covid getting reimbursed for telehealth was impossible and the platforms to do it were awful. It’s now become standard practice and 5 years in patients expect it. The genie is out and it pays for itself in convenience, outreach, and throughput of patients.

I live in WI in winter, unlike rump. There are many seniors who cannot drive and have no one to drive them, or have mobility problems too severe to be easily transported. And providers are scarce in many areas. Long waits to have an appointment. This is another way to deny medical care.

Would have been impossible for my mother who relied on televisits in her last years, she was unable to drive, walk and in the end navigate those decisions. Are they going to pay for transportation to the doctors office with assistance? No not likely. States with less healthcare will suffer most.

My 91 y/o parents depend on virtual visits for follow up appointments. If I need to take them to the office I can do it but it will be so hard on them. Many elderly people don’t have the help my parents have.

As a mental health provider who finds telehealth very valuable:
It’s been extended several times with this current waiver expected to expire at the end of March.
No final decision as it’s based on Congress getting their act together and reviewing guidelines.
Holding our breath for now.

My husband who has Parkinson's, he used Telehealth just a week ago... because traveling to the clinic for an appointment was just not going to happen, not with what he was dealing with with... not this time. Telehealth is a hugely important service for people with disabilities.

I also want to say, thank god for palliative care. I live in a rural area and we had just recently gotten a nurse to serve a huge area. She came once a month and it was paid by Medicare. Eventually my husband went on hospice. Are they going take away these services too?

My husband had Alzheimer’s and PD. We used the telehealth a lot during the last 2 years of his life. Like you said, on some days it wasn’t happening. With his Alz he was very anxious and obstinate about leaving our home and with the PD, he had difficulty just walking and getting into the car. 😢
