It is largely due to the huge cash injections from the Heritage Foundation and the loopy fruit evangelicals in the US.

It is a useful gateway drug to instil further bigotry in the general population. If you can get them hating, you can draw attention away from yourself.

The UK, and especially England, were always going to be resistant to Trans rights. There is too much wrapped up in hereditary history to let go; and things like "First born male heir" etc. don't mean anything after one rejects the deeply entrenched patriarchal hegemony of gender in the UK.
