Today I learned that they're not free in Australia. How does it work over there? In NZ there's generally a few fully subsidised options for each mainstream prescription medicine. We only pay a $5 script fee at the pharmary (which was free for a moment but our latest government brought it back).
Only some medications are subsidised by the government. I don't know any that are fully subsidised, ie free, except several vaccinations, but there may be some others. Women have lobbied for years to have more common menopause medications added, and it's finally just happened.
Aust govt subsidises cost of many core prescription medicines but not all meds. $ amt you pay for PBS meds varies depending on your situation but general patient co payment for PBS meds is $31.60. Those on Concession card pay abt $7. Meds not on the PBS aren’t subsidised & patient pays all for those
