I think your challenge is convincing people that helping other people through your taxes is the right thing. We struggle with that here too, not helped by the last 20+ years of naked greed and corruption
8k is a low ball estimate. Monthly premiums usually total about 15k/yr; add in typical 5-6k deductible plus co-pays and one canned up paying over 20k/yr to get substandard results, fighting ins cos etc etc.

You'd need to actually improve people's understanding of medicine; They need to know that the odds of them getting Super Cancer out of the blue versus getting anything else that is more easily treatable, but only over time.

Your point about it being thinly veiled racism is well taken - all you have to do is ask who exactly it is they're worried about paying for and their lack of an immediate answer is telling.
Also that this would be the biggest boost to small business in history meaning more jobs and tax revenue. That it would mean more entrepreneurship, better economy. That people would be less sick around you, meaning you'd say more healthy. FOR MANY SELFISH REASONS

No out of pocket, two major surgeries, one ER visit; all mental health care covered; preventive screenings & therapies at no cost.
