This reminds me of when it was briefly trendy for white folks to claim that using a gif of a black person is "like blackface". And I'd ask why it's always white people saying that and the response was like "no no the black people totally secretly agree with me they just need me to say it"
Having read the article now, she also does not exactly claim that white folks have to give up all Donald Glover gifs forever. But nuance is hard for the Very Righteous White Ally.
The degree to which people couldn't actually meaningfully address the point and instead resorted to "why won't you listen to marginalised people" language when that is in fact what I was trying to do - by fucking asking for an explanation - was quite annoying
I have had this experience myself and it's very frustrating. best I could understand is that some people feel the word "folx" has nonbinary vibes that "folks" or "folk" don't have.
