My parents bought me Command & Conquer and Red Alert when I was 5, and allowed me to play MechWarrior at the same age. But playing Doom or Duke Nukem required sneaking to the neighbour's house where their older kids would let me play it.
Same idea, I think.

(And I mean, when you pop open C&C's Nod campaign, they outright *tell you* you're playing as terrorists before you go shoot civilians in the first mission. So it's not like they're being subtle)
