Ten years ago, the only mode JT had was "annoying rhetorical flourishes". He still goes into that mode a lot, he went into it a bit tonight.

But this was the other mode he's developed, NAFTA-renegotiation, COVID, crisis-Justin. He was absolutely striking the tone Canadians are looking for.

Trump is a diplomatic idiot who has so little credibility that people planning investments thought he wouldn't actually do tariffs. Canada can signal US domestic interests that the hurt will deepen if the misbehavior continues and people can actually plan and negotiate.

Also I really hope this changes the balance for the coming federal election (the conservative party had a huge lead and now it's 50/50 even without the new Liberal leader being decided yet)
