reading the Steam reviews for Avowed is a solid reminder of why i do not give a shit about the opinions of internet randos
"the game should have a theft system!!!" your desires are utterly alien & incomprehensible to me
"i don't like guns in my fantasy RPGs" what are you TALKING ABOUT

Keep up the good work
Aragorn: You've already got one.
Pippin: We've got one, yes. What about second .45 ACP ICA19 Silverballer from Hitman video game?
people have very arbitrary ideas about what's 'historically accurate' for a fantasy game
Always have been.
D&D mixing and matching 11th century and late 15th century technology is much more strikingly anachronistic.
If bad gameplay design hurts the fun factor, then yeah, that's a different story.
so goofy to be like "I dOn'T lIkE gUnS iN fAnTaSy" like you clearly haven't played the previous games! or know any of the lore!
but yeah, in the series they make perfect sense and actively enhance the setting
even BethSoft games have a huge number of NPCs that can't be killed and items that can't be stolen!
but as a player, i often chose to not take things NPCs "owned" anyway
so even the historical inspirations had guns alongside swords lol
if you want an action RPG about trauma & redemption & imperialism & prejudice in a vibrant fantasy setting, then Avowed may be right up your alley
maybe everyone should be a stealth archer
maybe enemy strength should scale with how good you jump
if you're stealing, you're not engaging in the strengths of the game: exploration, fighting, dialogue. it's an actively dissonant mechanic
and that's fine, because encouraging players to spend 80 hours not touching the main quest is classic Bethesda design. but Avowed *wants you to play the story*. that's the game!
it's not realistic to have my bowl go flying across the room because the physics engine thought that apple was sitting inside it a little too much. it's fucking annoying actually!
why does the entire world know you're a criminal if a single person saw it happen
why does everyone KNOW if something is stolen
I IMAGINE IT IS ABSOLUTELY INFURIATING WHEN THAT ACTUALLY HAPPENS
Nothing like this has happened since the second patch without high explosives BUT IT KINDA STICKS WITH YOU
I'm somewhat sad about the lack of focus on the Bethesda Mechanics but, hey, they're free to make their own thing. Plus the combat is great
go play something else lol
just don't play it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
