As skeptical as I am, we desperately need the alternative, don’t we? A photo sharing app that drastically reworks youth protections (eg addiction/content) and maybe indirectly nudges our motivation from being there by putting less of an emphasis on vitality, followership…I have hope

Looked into Pixelfed? Federated photo-sharing based on #activitypub, like Mastodon for micro-blogging. No algorithms to steer users into harmful content, no corporate overlords, etc.

Instagram hasn't been a photosharing app in ages. Yes, people still share photos, but now it's:
- part TikTok (reels)
- part Facebook (friend connections)
- part dating app
- part shopping app
- part political propaganda tool

please @bsky.app . I personally think there is huge opportunity here. obviously there is a big market for people who never want anything to do with meta again... but also... I feel the instagram algorithm has got so cheap and tacky... I hardly ever use it without coming away feeling worse for it/

Thanks for sharing. I'm looking in to #Fediverse apps like #mastodon and #pixelfed now. But @bsky.app as the momentum and ease of use. So a photo sharing app by them can become a worthy alternative I guess.
