Reading China Miéville’s October rn, and the one thing sticking out to me is how extraordinarily contingent everything was. None of this was set in stone. Russia could have fallen back into the hands of the Tsar, had things one just a little different. Lenin was by no means a sure bet. Crazy stuff!
