Brownmiller once emailed me to argue that Emmett Till was asking for it (in response to a brief mention of her in a profile of Ishmael Reed). Dropped it when she realized I was a “person of cclor” [sic] and thus presumably incapable of reasoned discussion on the issue

if you think of radical feminism as a loose connection of disconnected, atomized individual authors rather than a fairly tight knit milieu you're gonna fundamentally misunderstand it as you would any other political movement or tendency

even if that weren't the case, as you pointed out in your recent article (which i do like) the base of the movement is overwhelmingly Dworkinite. there's no pure radfem demographic save a few scattered transfems attempting to rehabilitate something fundamentally hostile to our interests

this beyond just like, failures of radfem critiques on a basic level. women aren't at war at war with The Patriarchy (all men as a class) we're at war with The Patriarchy( the conservatives, especially the religious kind). radfems openly collaborated with and continue to collaborate with the latter

No of course radical feminism as a movement isn't a collection of atomized authors, but I absolutely disagree that Dworkinism was the base of any movement, in fact I don't think of it as radical feminist at all; rather, it was a cultural feminist backlash against radical feminism (see: Alice Echols)
