I find the quantities more depressing than the scores. That said, actually reading Goodreads reviews is a great way to shorten your lifespan.

All this tells you is people who read Butler have higher standards. Several anime review sites have median affected ratings, i.e. if your average rating is 9/10 they normalise it. That would help a lot here, given the average user is going to be reading trashy entertainment.

Half of being an author now is acting like an uber driver pestering for a good rating. Those ratings meaningfully influence if theyres more in a series, so these readers have learned its important to give a 5/5 if they want more.

You don't use Goodreads for recommendations, or finding books, let alone for talking to people about books. It should only be used as a second brain, a little personal index. That's it... jk you can read reviews, but only from people whos taste you trust

Oh, I usually don't-- i was morbidly curious since I'm seeing that book everywhere, haha.

But yeah, Goodreads has very basic functionality, and that's about all it's good for.
