There are so many games that are old and don't work right on modern hardware that run great on Steam Deck, sadly I had to sell mine, but Oblivion actually ran on there.
They're great devices and worth every penny. If you're between the Deck and some other competitor, I can't really say. The limited time I had with an Ally at a Best Buy display left me unimpressed.
I have PlaytronOS and orange pi Neo on my radar though as possible alternatives.
I was interested in the ally just because I enjoy Asus products, but the steam deck seemed more my speed. Thanks I’ll keep those in mind when I pick one up lol
If you have a Best Buy near you, swing by it and see if they have an interactive display. Don't let me discourage you.
Try one out for yourself.
I think the Pro for windows based mobile PCs is greater game compatibility and access to more stores, the Con is the experience with the OS itself. Ymmv.
Is the Steam Deck worth it? Been considering getting one since I have a long housesitting job lined up next month. Otherwise I prefer to sit in my computer chair to play games at my desk
I got my first one a little over a year ago and I'm a die-hard fan.
It's the power of a decent gaming PC, the streamlined experience of a console without being limited to just that experience, and the portability of a really bulky Nintendo switch.
I have mine as well love it.
I ended up with a dock, and keyboard and mouse. So docked I run windows and on the go i got steam os
Everything runs so smooth and nice 🍓😁
No, allocate more VRAM in the BIOS. Super easy to do and only really negatively affects sim and RTS games that are CPU and normal RAM intensive. And those games SUCK on the Deck.
Ah, yeah standard stuff. Try my suggestion, as long as you have the game in windowed mode the upscaling tends to look better than most implementations of FSR in game in my opinion. Works much better on the LCD than the OLED I'm guessing due to pixel density
Oh yeah, 100% forgot they added the dynamic VRAM in one of the more recent major updates. No longer HAVE to do it, but it definitely helps with non-Steam games.

What about the battery, and is it easily replaceable?
