I just keep a finished comic page open on my phone as reference ,,, so I can look over and say oh yeah I forgot they had a beard

Or, if I needed to remember specific details for the character (like hairstyle or a detail in the clothes) I'd just... draw a crudely drawn chibi/doodle of them also on a post-it with a side note like "REMEMBER HAIR LOOKS LIKE THIS" lol sadly not a fancy method but it worked for me!!!

I haven't drawn comics in a while, but I'm also very bad at making ref sheets for charas when I do lol... BUT what I remember helping me a lot to keep consistency of specific tones or details was literally having a wrinkly post-it with the tones I used written down for them haha

my rule of thumb: it don't matter if the it-not-mattering is key to the style

I think also making little note sheets like others suggested a lot! if there's a detail you absolutely can't forget you can always consult it, and they're much easier to make than ref sheets (here are some of mine)

you could compile a millanote or board of screenshots featuring those outfits, but honestly I just tend to look at previous pages I drew them in and color pick those LOL.
I agree that I don't like making ref sheets much. I find them too limiting

I usually just pull up the previous page in a window while I’m toning! Still pretty casual but it keeps things mooostly consistent lol

For characters I think it's ref sheets for sure... Iirc this sort of work is what cleanup artists and editors do so if you have someone you could ask to look over chapters before finalizing, that might help?
