Arte only has 1 year left of Tendon’s contract after this year…. He can afford Vladdy Jr. … Would it be right thing to do financially and baseball terms? Depends on how many holes Angels have at the end of the year.
Is it that difficult to believe? We’ve had tremendous front office problems since Pat Gillick retired…
Granted, we’re hardly the only team in baseball with those same issues… but as sad as it sounds, this front office has been the most consistently successful one we’ve had in 30 years.
lol I really need to proofread my comments. My opinion is that the current front office is inept. Much of the success of the team is due to pieces that were already in place.
If you look at any of the moves they’ve made in a vacuum, none of them were bad moves… It’s not being able to supplement those moves with developed talent.
The balance of their work at the big league level has been very good. But that’s not enough to have sustained success.
Idk if they were good moves or not, I just look at the teams record and playoff success since they’ve been here and see that they are simply okay, not great. I realize it’s a tough division but they haven’t lost a single playoff game to the Yanks or Sox. And have won one vs everyone else.
That’s not what the article says. The mistake was made years ago. If you did the Tatis deal, you’d effectively be paying Vladdy $27 million for 10 free-agent years.
How many teams would do $270/10 for Vladdy next year? The number now could be double that, which leaves three teams, likely.
He almost certainly would have taken it. It was a huge contract, and Tatis was playing a premium position. At the end of 2021, Vlad’s WAR was similar to Tatis’s when Tatis signed. Rich dad or not, he’s taking that contract given baseball’s economics at the time. It would have been a bet on himself.
Yeah, a guy who thinks of himself as the best player in baseball, who has a HOF father, who has made millions just from his bonus, let alone the rest of his career to date, would sign a below market deal at any time, let alone when he is close to free agency. Suuuuuure he would.
Certainly they are paying the price for not extending him early, but the answer isn't to over correct and pay him whatever he wants. He's not that type of player.
If he wants 14 years they should have traded him to a team dumb enough to do that.

Ken, do us a favor and just stick to the American teams.
the front office needs to be fired.

I think a lot of the feelings towards them comes from making unpopular decisions even if they were “good moves”.
