My kids very pakeha, very middle class school has sent a message to say they will mark children as a “justified absence” if they want to go to the hikoi in Te Whanganui-a-Tara on Tuesday. Very happy with that.

good for the schools that know they can get away with it to do so. a lot of others probably just... not planning on following up on absences, I'd guess.
Yes I think they are definitely using their privilege to their advantage. I think they are roundly pissed off with Seymour telling them how to run their school.
Absolutely agree with you. My nearly 8 yr old doesn’t want to go because he is worried about how many people will be there, but he also wants to go because he thinks what the govt is doing is wrong. I’ll try and convince him over the weekend.
