“Bind him hand and foot and cast him into the outer darkness”... Cormac McCarthys literary take on this concept of Outer Darkness is haunted, amoral and full of terse conversation. He is a master storyteller.

I read it differently. For Rinthy, I think there is hope. She moves "in a frail agony of grace" (what a phrase!) but Culla is "shambling, gracelorn". Those word choices convey a lot, I think. the way IO read it is that Rinthy finds closure, but Culla doesn't--can't, perhaps...
