If Z velocity < [WhateverYouNeed] then use a clamped float range for your damage amount. Done.
Just, it’s not the first method they should be showing folks.
When I start playing a game, whether MMO or other, I--always--assess how it's handled by jumping off a low ledge and see what happens. I've been pleasently surprised a couple of times w/ no damage at all.
Yes, it's crude, but... Should work.
The weapon projectile firing via a character skeletal animation key event was the one that broke me.
C++ purist all the way.
But in general my rule is - people who make tutorials for a living are horrible. So most of youtube...
