It is a bit disappointing to not have quotes... For me it is the mono-culture that makes it hard to have fresh information. I liked how twitter gave me insights into other circles that are not just gamedev or foss focused. I know mastodon is diverse, but it is hard to find that diversity 😔

Mastodon feels very paradoxical to me; a global, federated network of social networks where it often feels global discovery is shunned, and groups are encouraged to just stay within themselves; where I have to create an identity on the FooBar server if want to reliably see all Foobar content.

Yeah interesting. I can see this. I personally think Quote tweeting and actually adding useful context makes the retweeting more interesting... but definitely the majority use case is people dunking on other people.

People can still do that with screenshots anyway though.

Which is something I particularly dislike and honestly should stop being normalized. It was very frustrating to have someone blocked on Twitter and then seeing their shit being reposted anyway via screenshots. It's not something technically fixable, just something I wish people didn't do.

I like what bluesky did on quote tweet and blocked accounts. These anti-harassment features are probably more difficult to implement on Mastodon.
