Speedrunners can decently easily go over 1000 hours. Most speedrunners use highlights to submit their runs to SRC. Heavy speedrunners can pretty easily go over 1000 hours with all the grinding they do, believe it or not.

I don’t upload clips straight to YT but you can just click export and it’ll have a pop up thing!

I’ve never used a highlight in my life LOL. I just stream marker and manually clip or edit the vod after. I have never watched someone’s highlights before haha

VoDs are deleted after two weeks (and Clips are limited to 60 seconds)

So for those whose primary presence is on Twitch and not YouTube, this is a pretty massive shot in the chest (and even in the best case, is Twitch pushing people to move over to YouTube instead)

I don’t think it’s twitch pushing ppl to YouTube really. But again I really don’t understand why it’s so hard for some to just hit a button to export, especially if this is their job full time or not! It’s very easy to do and has lots of benefits. :>

Right, but that's just it: there is no longer viable long-term storage on Twitch for those who've used it as their main (or only!) video platform for over a decade, requiring them to maintain their existing Twitch presence and build up a YouTube presence from scratch.

We started on YouTube and put our VoDs up there anyway, but I've collabed with Twitch streamers who don't have a YouTube channel at all, and some of them have hundreds of hours or more they need to sort out (and also point their viewers at brand new YouTube channels if they want to see those VoDs)

I mean it's not a problem for me but I've seen screenshots from at least 3 people I follow on bluesky that have thousands of hours in storage. Sure it can all be moved to youtube but it must be tedious to do it for so many videos. Especially if you then want to organize them.

Some folks likely have years and years of content, way past the 100 hours. I saw one person say they've already been slowly archiving their old content, and now they have to rush.

If you are a Content creator. you should invest into some sort of Local data storage in an event like this. Hard drive space is expensive in a large scale. expecting any data to live forever is a pipe dream.

Do people even watch highlights? Twitch has always been more of a streaming platform so I can't imagine people are engaging with pre-recorded content in the first place.

VODs are the exception, but that's just to catch up on a stream that they missed.

Same here. Just seems like a legacy feature that seemed like a good idea in a vacuum. Now they're stuck with it cause people would complain despite it being barely used.
