We talk about climate change like it's a future problem, but what if it's already here, and we’re just pretending it isn’t because it’s too hard to face?

it's here. do your best to be careful. don't buy plastic bottles of water. start a compost. keep the heat at 56 at night and put some cozy blankets on the bed. recycle. that's some of the stuff i do to try to help.
I commend you (I have no dryer, compost, have a push lawn mower & wash plastic bags to reuse them) but it's not enough, is it, when rich white convicted-felons want to promote global warming to line their pockets and the pockets of their rich friends, and put the future of all our children at risk?
And, elect people who believe in science, because with the current fools in office, and their efforts to drill, baby, drill, and cut global warming initiatives, it's going to happen even faster (whether or not they believe in it).
It's not that it's already here, it's been here for decades. The trouble is the majority only want what they can have for themselves right now with no concern for the "future." It's called instant gratification.
Many yrs ago Acid Rain was a huge problem! The Clean Air Act of 1990 helped decrease sulfur dioxide emissions from power plants! Thus reducing acid rain! There is progress being made but with Caligula in power now who knows what he'll do to the EPA! He is already pulled out of the Paris Accord!
Climate change is a constant problem. Carbon based life impacts the environment. About 90% of all species that ever existed on Earth are extinct. Gaia is still here. The world ain't going anywhere. We are. We can try to minimize our impact, but it's a drop in the ocean.
I think we are in it for sure, they are trying to keep it under 1.5*C ? I don’t think that’s happening, actually there is a point where it is a run away train and I’m not sure we have past that stop. Things like Siberia thaw and release methane which is 1000x worse then Co2……
Correct, we already blew past the 1.5C mark.
We are NOT FACING it because OIL BILLIONAIRES don't want us to.
They think they will be dead before all the crops start dying
(they are wrong, it will be sooner than they think) and are just milking all the gullible fools while they can.
We are here. Look at those hurricanes 🌀
Do you know that NOAA created a category SIX hurricane after the storms last fall?
The fires in Los Angeles etc. We are here.
The biggest failure of governments around the world is: knowing better for 50 years, yet allowing oil companies to destroy the physics we need to survive here, for profit, power, and prestige.
Climate change is real for sure. Trump and crew will make it worse with his rant, drill baby drill. Only they are worrying is how much money they can make off of oil, gas and coal. Anything that can raise their stock prices in companies they have an interest in
They’re indeed related, but while we’re near a tipping point on our democracy, we’ve passed the tipping point on climate. From here, it’s about limiting the climate damage while finding scalable solutions that can keep the planet livable. The LA fires show how urgent the situation is becoming.
Significant chunks of the US aren’t that far from being unlivable. Lots of LA was already uninsurable under the current system. The Southeast is sinking and sea level rise is accelerating there. Storms are worsening.
Trump will only make it worse, which is one main reason we need to seize the government back at the midterms. The other is preserving the democracy you referenced!
Absolutely! MAGA Republicanism is even more toxic to the planet than longtime climate-denialist Republicans. The whole Musk obsession with deregulation is so polluters can pollute freely, with no constraints. So he can spread junk and destruction and CO2 every time he blows up a rocket.
I agree that it’s already here. I live in Texas and we had the weirdest weather cycles I’ve ever known this past year. Mother Earth is trying to show people, but way too many aren’t “listening”
The Pacific Islands are already sinking into the ocean. The Great barrier Reef in Australia is 'bleaching' due to climate warming. The main ice shelves are melting & breaking off in the Antarctic. I'm sorry, but while greedy corporations & politicians have been calling it a hoax, IT IS ALREADY HERE!
The most bitter pill to take is a mass unwillingness to make the necessary changes. Without a doubt halting industrial pollution is paramount, but if the people are unwilling to also make big changes, what’s in it for the oil companies to stop?
Consumer habits must change. Stop using plastic bags, stop demanding fresh food out of season, eating so much meat, demand more public transportation, more pedestrian friendly neighbourhoods, less grass lawns. Trains not planes.
People are just as unwilling to change as the corps
We're not stopping the push for greener things. Michael Bloomberg has pledged support for the Paris Climate Accords, funding diminished by U.S. pullout.
Last night I didn't read an article about climate scientists seeking psychological help because they can't deal with the rational conclusions of their research.

(definitely already here)
but don't want it to be true.
Plus daily life is already challenging.
They try to kick the crises "can"
(climate, biodiversity, harm to nature,
overconsumption, inequity)
down the road, not realizing:
there
is
no
more
room
for
kicking.
