Tuna (okay, duh), mayo, diced celery, and an absolute minimum of chopped raw onion. Anything else will disharmonize the whole thing.

We're planning a trip to NYC next year. Should we wait and try one there? (My husband is very interested in this. He said that he used to have a ham and Swiss on a cinnamon raisin bagel as a regular lunch. (He also eats the salmon skin first!))

Y'know, I might hold out for a trip to NYC and particularly to Ess-A-Bagel, if you can.

Cinnamon raisin bagels outside NYC, I've found, lean in too hard on the sweet. They're not supposed to be, y'know, muffins.

But if you're sure of your bagel's integrity: Go for it.

My favorite sandwich as a child was cream cheese, jelly, and pickles. One of my uncles was my favorite babysitter because he was the only one of them who would make it for me. I haven’t had the nerve to try one in over 40 years. Cream cheese and green olives on white bread however… still delicious.

This is indeed a great combination, and it doesn't take multiple Michelin stars to figure out that it works. Fish goes well with warm spices, and raisins have been a common enough addition to tuna and chicken salad for generations. Like many non-standard combos, the aversion is purely socialized.
