A little Bay Area literary history: Michelle originally decamped from SF the summer after her novel, Valencia, went gangbusters… the Mission was filled with throngs of groovy young lesbians looking for her. It was wild to see the impact in real time of an entire demographic reading the same book.
Hah, her influence clearly was so strong it still resonates her! But that's a good reminder to check my memories and assumptions, because for *some* reason, people occasionally move to LA !
