Just a heads up for anyone truly frustrated with this shit.

Don't trust accounts that just pop up and purport to be there to "help".

A twenty hour old account has put me on a list, calling me a bot. 😂

I hope BlueSky gets the bot issue under control.

Don't trust blocklists.

FYI - they are likely the same person as this blocklist account as I was also placed on it (along with the innocent artists i've got credited in my bio!) as well. Same pattern of bad actor behavior, this time claiming to "protect" sex workers

I've come to greatly prefer lablers over lists now bc of the abuse that's been going on in this fashion. At least that way you see the posts and if they have a label you can check further for yourself.

I dont see a pre-curated list of blocks as anything less than facism. If you didn't observe the account and come to the decision to block them yourself, ur letting someone else decide for you want you don't wanna see

It's called delegation. As you point out, it requires trust and vetting, but it lets people look out for each other; you only need one guard at the door to protect everyone inside.

And it lets good action scale as well as bad action: one spammer can afflict many, but one guard can protect many.

Even if the blocklist is made by someone with good intentions, I still reject the idea in spirit and in principle, to let someone else decide who you should block without you coming to that conclusion on your own. It's part of existing online, just like any other social skill.

Okay, but then spammers can force you to do more work to evaluate them individually. That in itself is a loss of control, that you cede to the spammer rather than to a blocklist maintainer. I'd rather make concessions to good people than bad people.

The first block list I looked at, which was 'anti content scrapers', the first account I looked at sure did scrape some content, but had at LEAST as much original posting... Seemed overly heavy handed... did not add that block list...
