Yeah, but Nintendo owns the format and asks people to pay them to make a game, so even if a game is produced and does zero sales, they still get money, in the long run, it's a win-win situation for them. Remember the "Seal of Quality" yeah, that's it, it's never been about quality.
So I found the numbers from 2018. To make a game for Nintendo on a 32go cart (physical), it will cost $22 you. For the Sony Ps4, it will cost you $13-14 for 50go (physical). You also need a minimum production, I think it's 6000 for Nintendo. I imagine, they will bump that up for the Switch 2.
They took more of the cake (the developers pack is indeed more expensive on PS side), you will then probably win less from Nintendo unless you go digital only, but you can see that it leads to a bunch of junk on the digital store.
Waiting to see it bumped up by at least 300$, and games by 20-40.
I used to be PC/Nintendo, but I guess it’s finally time to be PC/Steam deck(w/emulators).
I know everyone things Nintendo is a really fun and family company. But they would murder you and your family for a nickel. And they've always been this way.
Oh no, I did. You're comparing the price of 3rd party games then with 1st party games now; I'm comparing the price of 1st party then and now. Back in the day, Nintendo had a stranglehold on the production of game cartridges - they had a 15,000~ minimum requirement for production and earned off that.
The developers got only a few dollars per cart, whilst Nintendo took the rest of the cut, essentially double dipping. This is why 3rd party games tended to be more expensive back then, so the 3rd party could get profit, whilst Super Mario 64 launched at $60USD.
This situation still exists, except Nintendo upped the prices of their games to match the average 3rd party more. This isn't too noticeable, because logically, 'of course they'd all cost the same'. There's even some exceptions with budget titles where 3rd party is cheaper!

This once was common knowledge, but now that everyone is a "gamer" I guess not. My last three steam purchases were € 56 - combined.
