Did some math on the SNAP cut and it looks like a straight benefit cut of 28% current budget would be for $983bn in benefits over 10y and they want to cut $274bn of that.

Would take max monthly benefit for an individual from $292 to $210.

Yep. The Social Services Block Grant is the remnants of LBJ’s Great Society Programs aka the “War on Poverty.”

They were stripped of individual appropriation status and lumped into block grants under Reagan, a GOP tactic to move toward social service program elimination.

I've worked at several orgs that were funded by them. I used to write the RFPs for one of my orgs and they are super strict as it is. If they take them away, a lot of those smaller grassroots orgs will go away. Which is the whole point.

I have a severely multiply impaired adult son. Medicaid not only funds his medical care (most notably his seizure meds,) but also his day program and our care assistant. Cuts would destroy his life, and mine.

ALL of our health care policies are based on the fact that they save dollars in the long run. Preventative services, diagnostic screenings all save money by avoiding more costly curative care later. They were sold to the public as morally correct but the gov't knows they save $.
