It saddens me greatly that Prof Stephen Powis is happy to tell #BBCBreakfast the blatant untruth that “physician associates have been an integral part of clinical teams for > 20yrs”.

It shouldn’t be up to ordinary Drs to call out the disinformation surrounding this scandal…but here we are!

Have they really? I must have missed them in my department. As we haven’t had any in the last 20 years. And hi - I’m Kevan - specialist paramedic practitioner in urgent care, and absolutely not a GP - I do broken bones, cut bits, and things stuck in places they shouldn’t be. GPs are my heroes! ❤️ ☮️ ☺️

We haven't trained enough personnel ever, the ability to recruit high quality candidates from overseas is much reduced.
The boom in specialist nursing posts has destroyed inpatient care. Advanced Heslthcare Practitioners are expensive and slow to train. We're a bit screwed.

Specialist nurses typically have a tole that is either advisory or clinic based. The people who get those roles are usually the more experienced nurses. They leave sad do not pass their knowledge onto much junior staff who may miss signs or lack the skills to manage complex patients.

I'm going to take a middle ground on this one. Daughter is nurse with a Masters and she ensures the Oncology Service looks after their patients with little medical support. They are ward based and support the ward staff.

However in my hospital we have a whole floor in admin with specialist nurses doing their jobs a lot of time from their PC's. Now I don't think this is wrong however the ain't supporting the wards. I have argued they should do a minimum number of shifts on wards helping to train staff.

In all honesty I think the Chief Nurse should spend a minimum of one shift a month on the shop floor. Then again I think the Chief Executive should walk the wards chatting to staff regularly!

Needless to say this view has made me unpopular.However I believe there is a body of evidence that supports

Real doctors are unemployed as Govt/NHS is replacing them with someone who has done a 2 year superficial course and tell patients they are part of the team (patients don’t realise not seeing a real doctor)
They are paid more than some doctors so waste of public funds while putting patients at risk

So many doctors have been forced to emigrate due to this policy (since 2017) leaving their families & friends behind
(but getting a higher pay for fewer hours outside UK)

Few more years and there won’t be many doctors left in NHS
