y'know the wild thing about a transfem reading of Ranma is that she does really come off as a trans girl not only because of how she acts about her girl form, but also like...holy shit she's got the traumatized childhood of being forced to be masculine that so many of us have. That resonates so hard

Was watching Ranma 1/2 with my friends and feeling profoundly uncomfortable with the idea of them discovering how much I related to it a hugely influential moment for me? Also Yes.
(One third of that friend group is also out as trans now lol)
So yeah, predates it by at least 8 years.
