They could directly distribute goods amongst each other. They could have private underground solar powered everything factories. They could finish buying the world’s governments and create a kind of pseudo communism of the elite.

A closed loop does not generate profit. That's effectively barter. They need the proles to buy their tat.A "free " source of energy just increases profits, when they sell.
Billionaires are Billionaires for a reason. Like Smaug they hoard riches. A smooth running egalitarian society where there's automation leading to goods being available without cost, provided to those in need without the labourers sweat , gives them no satisfaction.
But we’re talking about billionaires distributing amongst themselves. Presumably as an alternative to warring with one another until one person owns everything.
