This really is the start of a new era. WebR is very exciting as someone who has spent a lot of time trying to get R and JS to play nicely. Excellent work on this fun new app demonstrating the potential of mobile R!

Well, it might be a bit complicated, and I'm not sure it would really work in offline mode, and the app would need to be convertible to shinylive. I have explored this path so far, I feel like that's doable but for small apps and not large ones.

There are a lot of restrictions when it comes to running webR, which is run in a sandboxed WebAssembly environment, so complex shiny apps would rely on things that might not be doable inside this env.

Well, this specific one is not targeted for iPad, as we wanted to make a Proof of concept and managing larger screens requires some adjustment we haven't made yet...
But I actively opt out of iPad, it's not a technical barrier, so to answer your question: yes, that's doable.

iPad agnostic take here: tablets would be the device where I would expect the most usage of a mobile R interface, especially if it had Rstudio functionality.

Still, you've made a cool and necessary app.

I def agree with you, even more in an industry perspective where there are a lot of tablets used in the working environment. That's doable, but for the current app it was about proving that's possible, so we wanted to cover the devices where we would have the more reach :)
