I'm no professional but the two options I was advised:
- make a website (or use pre-portfolio - ArtStation and Cara can work -)
- make an interactive PDF
You can then categorise your work.
Keep it small and easy to navigate, add videos too if you want.
It also depends on the type of job you're aiming for. 3D art? Focus on that and ditch the rest. 2D digital animation? Focus on that and ditch the 3D stuff. Some companies (not all!) don't like you showing too many different mediums because they want you to focus on their job requirement
Thank you for the excellent response! So this is all sort of “just in case”. I’m not sure what I’d be applying to, but right now I have no portfolio to show if I did. 2D Illustration and airbrush are my main expertise I’d say. I’m not sure if it’d be ok to mix them? I could refine later too I guess.
Portfolios are a nightmare to make... The one I made in 2022 took me nearly a year to put together lol. I need to remake it from scratch though but I've been lazy
Hmm maybe you could show is 2D illustrations/concepts of something you got to make into a 3D item and airbrush it? Like use some of your 3D printed models or horses you got to paint with your previous job, and make an illustration of it. And then say like 'from 2D concept to physical reality'
I could definitely do that with some of my sculpts, but I’d probably need to make a base for anything I painted at work, because those models have a copyright. That’s a good idea though I think I’ll do this!
