I imagine that priority 1 for the government is to avoid trade tariffs with the USA. For that reason alone it is vital we are nice to the Americans.

Given Trump is against the clock here, with 2 years before he could lose the house or senate (or both) and the starting gun goes on 2028 are we not just making the right sort of noises to keep things moving along? Make it seem like we are interested, keep talking and before you know it he is gone?

I'm making an educated guess here, but I doubt that this or previous UK governments have sought to draw upon 20 whatever years of expertise probably because of a bit of snark here and there. And that they didn't think they needed it.
