Yes! Just reading about plans for the Yarlung Tsangpo hydropower project & its mind boggling scale. I mean this in a good way, but how do we reconcile complaints about NIMBYism wrt to climate, West vs China contestation and lack of cooperation on climate goals, with this urge to criticise China’s autocratic methods. Will it in any way make them change their approach either?

There is strong peoples' resistance to India's counter plan to build a large dam. There has been a lot of reporting on this. But I see nothing from China/ Tibet side

Yes these news are really sad. Not only a big environmental risk but also geopolitical. This while climate change rain patterns make earlier dams like the Three gorges unreliable in summer when electricity demand is highest.

Thanks for sharing. Massive 'hydel' (1st time I've encountered this shorthand!) projects in the upper catchments of significant rivers in both China/Tibet & India are extremely worrying
