It’s strange to see conservatives applauding food regulations because whenever progressives advocate for universal healthcare, we’re met with a chorus of conservatives saying “people should make better decisions!”

It all makes sense when you understand that it's good when conservatives get to make the decisions for everyone else, but it's bad when liberals get to make decisions for anyone.
"Rules for thee, but none for me" has always been the sole conservative ideal.
The "ESTABLISHING THE PRESIDENT’S
MAKE AMERICA HEALTHY AGAIN COMMISSION" executive order yesterday would have started a riot if any other president had tried it.
They don’t know what they stand for, it’s very clear. They’re going against literally everything they claimed to hate about Democrats and Progressives. Free speech? Nah. Small gov? They changed their mind. They fall for anything.
Remember when Musk was the enemy because he was trying to push the electric car agenda to "save the planet". Then they learned he was a fascist nazi dictator and started buying cybertrucks to pwn the libz.
I don't think you got the context. They hate anything and everything that's good for people or the environment. But if they are told by their cult leaders to do it, they will. If Musk pushes the Green New Deal they will cheer it on.
Because universal healthcare caters to the needs of common folk, that's why. Conservatives don't believe we need to be catered to, they believe we deserve to suffer for being allegedly lazy/stupid.
