I can say my section is allocated 79 positions and we have been running 25 people short of that for over a year. The majority of which are the front line employees who are backbone of this program. We are sitting at about 50% staffing in those key positions.

@ninaturner.bsky.social let me add. They are extremely dedicated. They are underpaid compared to hospital workers in state/private hospitals. It takes a special level of dedication to work for the VA. I was recruited twice and I had to turn it down because I couldn't afford the loss financially.

Further more hurting the VA reduces the value many seek by joining the military in the first place. This will drive recruitment down. Supposedly Republicans are against that or so they screeched on multiple campaign trails.
